We are currently trying to figure out our housing situation again.
Our current place was only supposed to be a temp thing. The cost is going to kill us. We are paying a vacationers rate for something that is now looking like a couple more months. We are doing what we can but this place is just way too much money for a long-term rental. We are getting through Churchhill corporate rentals and well we need to find something else.
If you have someone who has an in-laws apartment, would like to sublet for 3 months, or wants us to house sit, please let me know. Elias is currently an out-patient so the house/apartment needs to new newer, very clean, mold free, within Boston, and furnished on the 1st or 2nd floor because I can’t carry him up more than 2 flights of stairs. A large one bedroom studio or 2 bedroom with washer and dryer (everything we have needs to be washed constantly because of germs). He can not take the subway (no mass transportation) and I don’t have a car. Elias will be going into the hospital soon but they might let him out for a couple of days in the middle of treatment if he is doing well and if so we need somewhere for him to sleep. We have Isaac sometimes too but only about 1/2 the time. It needs to be less than 4,500 a month in total with utilities. The only way that is going to happen is if you have a friend or family member that is willing to rent us their place for a couple of months out of the kindness of their hearts. It seems like a lot of money but I know that even this price is a deal. We are looking for something that is less money but no luck yet… . Thank you for your help.
Ronald McDonald house has to have 24 hours before they will make a reservation but no earlier which is a great back up plan, and you can only stay there 45 days. Yawkey center for families is booked till March. We have already called Longwood apartments, 1330 Brookline, and Fenway Trilogy…. and about 60 other places. If you have pull this is what we need help with.
Thank you for your help.
Have they checked with either Hospitality Homes or Christopher’s Haven? Or AstraZeneca’s Hope Lodge?
My sister had these thoughts.
Much love
Amy

Mai: I have put your plea up to my friends in the Boston area. If I hear of anything, I will let you know. If you get something, let me know too, so I will stop looking. My prayers are with you all.
Mai, it’s Kelly from Sustainable Nantucket. I’m living in Boston now and I’m going to spread the word to everyone I know about the housing. I’m sure something is going to materialize for you guys. Meanwhile, if you ever need help with transportation I have a car – I’d be happy to lend it to you on the days that I don’t need it (which is most days during the week) or pick you up/drop you off somewhere – whatever. I’m in Jamaica Plain very close to Longwood.
it’s not like having your own space, but worst case, there are strong communities around airbnb and couchsurfing.org that might offer cheaper/easier places to stay.

i mention these sites because they’re heavily internet-based and i’ve seen your story on a few friends posts on facebook and Google+. so the internet community might be a good place to crowd-source lodgings
I would suggest getting in touch with the head of our rental division at Hammond, Nancy MCreary 617 731 4644. You may use my name. Also, look into Avalon apartments in Chestnut Hill. They do short term rentals. Good luck.
Please tell us where we send donations and how they should be written so our community can help offset costs during this situation
Thank you
Mike
We don’t have anything set up yet but thank you for being so thoughtful.
Sorry for the email address error
Please tell us where and how to make donations to defray costs
Thank you!
Mai: You should call the pediatric hem/onc folks at MGH (ask to get transferred to the hem/onc clinic on Yawkey 8 and you should reach Noreen or Laura). Also bug the ped.hem/onc folks at Dana-Farber (don’t know names). One or both should be able to make suggestions – even if your son is at Childrens’. Another angle: there are a lot of hotels around Childrens’ that are not full all the time. You might be able to finagle something with them if you push hard. G/L, Shawn.
Sending best wishes…

Mai:
You have so many nice friends who are really looking out for you, you are so blessed. Having had the experience in childhood leukemia’s I wanted to see if I could help your friends in understanding Elias and your needs. I know it is frustrating to get your needs across, so maybe I can be of help.
Every time you take Elias out of the hospital environment you need to be assured that the germs he is exposed to is at a minimum, because even the slightest infection can have a devastating affect on his fragile body. Hotel rooms and homes all need to be wiped and cleaned meticulous. You spend hours preparing a room or home before you can stay. Exposure during the winter season is the worst, and special precautions need to be taken.
You also need to be close to the hospital, as there may be times when Elias will spike a fever and you need to get him to the hospital immediately. This is why you are pleading for a place near the hospital and why you have not taken a room at the local hotel. You need your own place that you can bring your things and keep there for a while so Elias is comfortable and happy when he leaves the hospital.
I am still trying!
Leslie
I am obsessively cleaning and I am not sure if the Family Inn is the right place for us now that I am looking at it I need to go see where our room is and who else is in the house and why their children are in the hospital. Now that I have some leads I am going to go look at our options to see what is the safest place for Elias. Thank you for your thoughts and love. Mai
You know you and your family are always welcome to stay here, but we are over an hour away, but we do have a neighbor who would be more than welcomed around Elias, I am sure.
FYI: The train now goes from the South Station to PVD Airport and is only $8.50 each way.
My best to you and always reach out to me for help, I am here for you
